HOW TO GET FROM CEBU TO SURIGAO VIA FERRY
1.BUY YOUR CEBU TO SURIGAO FERRY TICKETS.
There are ferries that regularly run between Cebu and Surigao. I recently took the Starlite ferry from Cebu to Surigao, and then going back from Surigao to Cebu, I took the Cookaliong ferry.
For Starlite Ferry, which is owned by Chelsea Logistics, you can buy your ferry at their ticket office located near Pier 4 Gate 4. You can also purchase your ticket online at their website chealseatravel.ph. Or reserve your tickets through the link below.
Make sure you have a valid ID when booking your ticket. They might allow you to book in person without ID, but make sure the name of the passenger on the ticket matches the name printed on the valid ID. Because that will be verified upon check-in. And the valid ID is required upon check-in.
IMPORTANT: See the 2024 Cebu to Surigao ferry schedule and rates above.
2. MAKE YOUR WAY TO PIER 3 (TERMINAL 2), GATE 6.
Cebu to Surigao ferry passengers need to head to Pier 3 (Terminal 3) Gate 6 for check-in and boarding. Only ferry passengers with valid tickets are allowed to enter. You need to show your ticket and valid ID to the guard at the entrance door.
Travel Tip: If you are carrying heaving luggage or boxes, you can hire a porter before you enter the port building. Just make sure you have no valuables in your bag. I hired a porter for my 1 luggage and I was quoted ₱100 ($1.73). I showed him my ticket and he noted the bunk bed #. The porter was also carrying other luggage and boxes, and assured me my luggage will be delivered on my bunk bed inside the ship. I will pay once the bag is delivered. Take note of your porter #, written on their uniform, in case you need to find him.
3. PAY THE TERMINAL FEE
Upon entering the port, head to the booth for Terminal Fee. Show your ticket and pay the ₱25 ($0.43) terminal fee for Cebu Port.
4.CHECK-IN
Next, head to Starlite or Cookaliong booth inside the port. Just like boarding an airline, you also need to check-in before you board the ferry. Line up to check-in. Provide your ticket and valid ID.
5.WAIT AT YOUR DESIGNATED GATE FOR BOARDING
Once your ticket is validated and you’re checked-in. Head to your designated gate for boarding. Wait for your ferry’s arrival.
6.BOARD THE FERRY
At your designated gate, the TV screen will show if your ferry is ready for boarding. There are also ground staff that will assist you. A bus usually take the passengers to the ferry, since the ship is usually docked at Gate 4.
7.LOOK FOR YOUR BED OR CABIN
Upon boarding the ship, a staff will check your ticket and tell you which floor is your bed located. A staff might help you carry your luggage, if someone does, you can just give a small tip for assisting you.
8.GET YOUR BEDSHEET AND BLANKET
If you’ve booked a tourist class, you can get a blanket and bedsheet. Just provide a valid ID. You can claim your ID once the ship has docked at your port of disembarkation upon returning the bed sheet and blanket.
TRAVEL TIPS AND REMINDERS:
- You can hire a porter for your luggage, rates usually start at ₱100 ($1.73).
- There is a small playground/ place for kids inside Cebu Pier 4 Gate 4 where your toddlers can play while waiting for your ferry trip. There’s a fee for it though.
- There are stores inside the port that sell food, drinks, snacks, and souvenirs. So you won’t really get hungry while waiting for your ferry.
- Starlite Ferry doesn’t have charging docks on their bed, unlike Cookaliong. Bring a fully charged power bank. Otherwise, prepare lots of ₱5 ($0.087) if you want to charge your phone inside the ship. Cookaliong has free socket for charging your phones, located on top of the head of your bunk bed.
- Don’t forget return your borrowed bedsheet and blanket and claim your ID before disembarkation.
