Zamboanga city–  This bustling metropolis earned the moniker. “Asia’s Latin City” because residents here primarily speaks Chavacano, a Spanish creole language, not to mention that  they also have the same patroness – Our Lady of the Pilar.

How to get to Zamboanga City:

By Plane:

There are flights to Zamboanga City from Manila, Davao, Cebu, and Iloilo via Cebu Pacific Airlines.

By Boat :

Ferries also to Zamboanga City from Manila, Cebu and Davao are also available twice a week. There is also a ferry to and fro Sandakan, Malaysia.

By Land:

There are daily buses to and fro Zamboanga city from Ozamis, Misamis Occidental and Dapitan, Zamboanga Del Norte.

How to get to the city proper from Zamboanga city airport:

 

By jeep:

Walk outside the airport gate and look for jeeps with “Canelar” signboard. Fare is Php 8.  If you are on a shoestring budget, you may want consider looking for cheap hotels at Atilano Compound (click the link for instructions on how to get there).

To get to the airport from Zamboanga city proper, you may take jeeps with “Canelar airport” signboard at Climaco Avenue. Fare is Php 8. You may also ride a jeep with “Camin” signboard.

By tricycle:

Alternatively, you may charter a tricycle from the city center to the airport for about Php 100.

By taxi:

Taxis are available from Zamboanga city airport, usually charges a fix rate of Php 200.

Getting around Zamboanga city:

The best way to get around Zamboanga city is through the ubiquitous jeeps and tricycle.

How to get to Yakan Weaving Village:

Take a jeep with Upper Calarian signboard, make sure to ask the driver if it will pass by Gate 2 (Gate 1 route will not pass by Yakan Village).  Make sure to tell and remind the driver to drop you off at Yakan Weaving Village.  Fare is Php 10, travel time is around 15 minutes.

How to get to Pasonanca Park:

Ride a jeep bound to Pasonanca, travel time is roughly 20 minutes, fare is Php 10 from the city proper.

How to get to Mt.Pulong Bato in Sitio Abong-Abong :

From Pasonanca Park, you can hire a habal-habal (motorcycle) to take you to Mt. Pulong Bato in Sitio Abong-Abong.  Negotiate with the driver, usually fare is Php 30.

How to get to Sta.Cruz Island in Zamboanga City:

Coordinate with the DOT office near the City Hall to hire outrigger boats.

How to get to Taluksangay Mosque and Village

Take a jeep bound to Taluksangay near Plaza Pershing at the city center. Fare is Php 14.

How to get to Merloquet Falls

Ride a bus or van bound to Vitali. Travel time is 1.5 to 2 hours and fare is around Php 170.  Get off at Vitali checkpoint on the highway and look for a habal-habal (motorcycle) to take you to the jump off point of Merloquet Falls, negotiate the fare with the driver.  Walk to the shed where you need to pay the entrance fee of Php 5 per person, parking fee is Php 10 for motorcycle and Php 20 for cars or other vehicles.  Hike down the falls for about 15 minutes.
