Detailed travel blog on Puerto Princesa Travel Requirements for tourists, travel restrictions, DOT-accredited accommodations in Puerto Princesa, what to do, and sample Puerto Princesa itinerary.

Puerto Princesa is now open for local and international tourists, and the travel requirements are easy.  I just recently traveled to this bountiful capital of Palawan province for work, so I have some updated information for you. Puerto Princesa is now under Alert Level 1, so it’s now pretty safe to visit. All the tourist spots are now open again, except for Ihawig Prison and Penal Farm. And there’s no more limit on the length of stay of tourists. To help you plan your trip, here’s the latest Puerto Princesa Travel Requirements for 2022.

WHERE TO STAY IN PUERTO PRINCESA

It’s best to book your accommodation in advance because Puerto Princesa City is huge, and you might be overwhelmed if you don’t book a hotel in advance. Book DOT-accredited accommodations, to make sure the hotel is still open because some accommodations have closed due to pandemic.

So, where to stay in Puerto Princesa? There are 2 convenient locations to stay: downtown Puerto Princesa or Sabang. Staying in Puerto Princesa city center is convenient because almost everything you need is there – hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops. And many hotels in the city are budget-friendly. But if you are planning to stay near the beach and experience island life, Sabang is your best bet. It’s quite far from the city though, about 1 hour travel by land, but if you’re doing the Puerto Princesa Underground River, Sabang Wharf, the port where pump boats ferry visitors to the park is pretty close.

HOW TO GET TO PUERTO PRINCESA

Puerto Princesa Travel Requirements: Sabang Port

(Sabang Port in Puerto Princesa, Palawan)

Several airlines fly from Manila to Puerto Princesa such as Cebu Pacific, Airasia, and Philippine Airlines.  Rates usually start from ₱2,000 ($38), depending on the season.

You can also fly (connecting flight to Manila) from major cities in the Philippines like Cebu, Iloilo, Legazpi, and Davao to Puerto Princesa. But fare is more expensive. During my recent trip to Puerto Princesa this 2022, my brother and I flew from Legazpi City to Puerto Princesa via Manila.

GETTING AROUND PUERTO PRINCESA CITY

Tricycle and jeepneys/multicabs are the main mode of transportation in Puerto Princesa City. The city is huge, so it’s easy to get lost. I usually just ride the tricycle if I don’t know where to go. LOL Tricycle fare in Puerto Princesa costs ₱12 (minimum fare) for the first 2 kilometers and ₱2 additional fare for every succeeding kilometer. However, due to pandemic, the usual DOT-accredited tricycles from Puerto Princesa Airport are no longer available.

Nowadays, tourists are encouraged to avail of tours from DOT-accredited travel agencies.  If you’re a large group, you can also rent a car or van from reputable tour agencies.
